Become A Cleanup Leader
Become a Beach Squad Cleanup Leader
Help lead our weekly beach cleanups, support volunteers, and make a real impact in our community.
What Is a Cleanup Leader?
Cleanup Leaders are the heart of Beach Squad’s weekly Sunday beach cleanups.
Leaders help create a welcoming, organized, and positive experience for every volunteer - from the moment they arrive to the moment the last bucket is weighed and packed away.
This role is ideal for responsible, friendly people who enjoy helping others, staying organized, and leading by example.
Cleanup Leader Responsibilities
Cleanup Leaders assist with the full cleanup process, including:
• Arriving at Sun Splash Park by 8:00 AM
• Helping unload supplies and set up the cleanup station
• Greeting volunteers and creating a friendly, welcoming environment
• Ensuring all volunteers are signed in through Eventbrite
• Assigning and tracking numbered cleanup buckets
• Giving a brief orientation (where to go, what to pick up, what not to pick up)
• Answering volunteer questions throughout the cleanup
• Weighing collected trash and recording totals
• Distributing volunteer goodie bags
• Consolidating trash, rinsing and draining buckets
• Organizing, stacking, and loading supplies at the end of the cleanup
Leaders are required to stay for the entire cleanup and assist through teardown, typically finishing by 11:30 AM.
What We’re Looking For
To ensure smooth and safe cleanups:
• A minimum of two Cleanup Leaders are scheduled for every cleanup
• Leaders must have reliable transportation
• Leaders must be comfortable talking with the public
• Leaders must be dependable and communicate clearly
Cleanup Leaders are not paid positions, but leaders often receive:
• Verified volunteer hours
• Leadership experience for resumes, scholarships, and applications
• Occasional perks donated by local businesses (food, discounts, promotions)
• First access to special events and opportunities
Time Commitment
To maintain consistency and avoid retraining new leaders each week, Cleanup Leaders are asked to commit to:
• At least 4 consecutive Sunday cleanups
• Arrival by 8:00 AM
• Staying until cleanup completion (around 11:30 AM)
This commitment helps ensure a smooth experience for volunteers and a positive team environment for leaders.
Application Process & SCHEDULING
